I come from Engraving, and my work moves along the realization of a particular graphic art, artist books, artistic installations, paintings, artist toys, visual poetry, glass sculptures and lately I have worked with textile art.
For many years I have incorporated into my work, those elements and objects that have been discarded for whatever reason, excluded, changed, forgotten and thus eliminated from the daily world.
I find pleasure in transforming materials. In this piece I have included parts of a piano’s inner structure, fabrics, different kinds of tapes: mute cassette tapes, super 8 tapes of pictures frozen in time, and soft white velvet tapes. Transformation of the materiality into continuity, permanent transformation.
Then, the appearance of the fabric and the knots. This is what this piece is about. What do these knots tie? What is tied through the knots? Different vital moments, different realities? Are we tying the past to the present?
I add the laces. The laces carry naughty sizes and intervals, flirting with the knots. All of them contained within the layers of voile fabric, translucent walls resembling grandma’s curtains. My childhood images, foggy, are reconverted into this piece of art, creating a new and present reality.
I incorporate the light as the revealer of what cannot be seen, what is hidden, concealed. The two dimensions, by being lit up, are transformed into a subtle tridimensional image.
Wonders of the art, which allow us to depict beyond words; and a piano complaining in the back, finally incorporating the sound, with the appearance of a new materiality: yes, the sound as the ultimate materiality, seemingly intangible, forging the word and the piece of art.
