1957年出生。1982年中央美术学院毕业，留校任教。
1985年作品《李大钊、瞿秋白、萧红》获国际青年年美展金质奖。1987年公派赴日，随东京艺术大学校长平山郁夫教授从事美术比较与古代绘画保存修复研究。1995年于联合国教科文组织总部（巴黎）举办“胡伟展”。1996年获东京艺术大学美术博士学位。1997年回母校中央美术学院工作，破格晋升教授，建立并主持“材料与表现工作室”。2010年调任中国美术馆副馆长。
现为国家二级教授，博士生导师，中国美术家协会理事、综合材料绘画与美术作品保存修复艺委会主任。

Hu Wei was born in 1957. In 1982 he graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and later worked there as a teacher.
Hu Wei's work named "Li Dazhao, Qu Qubai and Xiao Hong" won the gold medal at the International Youth Annual Art Exhibition in 1985. In 1987, Hu Wei went to Japan on an official assignment to work with Professor Ikuo Hirayama, President of Tokyo University of the Arts, on comparative art and the conservation and restoration of ancient paintings. In 1995, he held the "Hu Wei Exhibition" at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. In 1997, Hu Wei returned to his alma mater, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he was promoted to professor and established and headed the "Material and Expression Studio". Recently, he is a professor of the second level, a doctoral supervisor, a director of the China Artists Association, and the director of the Art Committee for the Conservation and Restoration of Mixed Materials Painting and Artworks.

Hu Wei nació en 1957. En 1982 se graduó en la Academia Central de Bellas Artes y posteriormente trabajó allí como profesor.
La obra de Hu Wei titulada "Li Dazhao, Qu Qubai y Xiao Hong" ganó la medalla de oro en la Exposición Anual Internacional de Arte Juvenil de 1985. En 1987, Hu Wei viajó a Japón con beca gubernamental para trabajar con el profesor Ikuo Hirayama, presidente de la Universidad de las Artes de Tokio, sobre arte comparativo y conservación y restauración de pinturas antiguas. En 1995, celebró la "Exposición Hu Wei" en la sede de la UNESCO en París. En 1997, Hu Wei regresó a su alma mater, la Academia Central de Bellas Artes, donde fue ascendido a catedrático. Allí él estableció y dirigió el "Estudio de Material y Expresión". En 2010, se trasladó al Museo Nacional de Arte Chino, y trabajó como subdirector del museo. Actualmente, es catedrático de segundo nivel nacional, supervisor de doctorado, miembro de consejo de la Asociación de Artistas de China y director del Comité de Arte para la Conservación y Restauración de Pintura y Obras de Arte de Materiales Mixtos.
