The Dilemma Between Self and Appearance
Appearance is what you see; what you look like.
What matters, is what is seen?
My work takes place in that space or terrain that exists between what is seen and what is represented, where sometimes the limits are confused. Starting from photography as inspiration or as a fundamental element of my work, I build situations, installations, where the capacity of perception comes into play. Sometimes I use the images to represent surfaces (tiles, wood, cement, plates, etc.), where I build volumes that can simulate pieces of streets, facades of houses.
In these representations I play with the characteristics of the materials, showing them in situations different from the expected, questioning their properties, new readings are raised that lead us to think about our certainties. With these elements as a tool, my installations aim to generate an atmosphere, a climate with which all the senses come into contact, an experience of presence where the known references trigger in the affective memory many possibilities of reading. And always the limit between what is and what seems to be generates a new questioning of what is seen.
