引言

后疫情时代，人们开始反思受疫情影响所产生或强化的一种线下与线上、真实与虚拟相结合的学习与认知、交流与连结、生存与思维方式，并由此引发了“元宇宙（Metaverse）”等概念的时兴。这个流行词汇的前缀-meta来自于“形而上学/元物理学”（metaphysics），意指在自然的产物或物质的世界之上/之后。在“元-meta”引发的概念欢呼和虚拟热潮的同时，我们也愈加感受到物质现实、身体存在、真实时空的基础价值和意义，愈加理解重新审视和探索物质世界及其在塑造社会和表达人类愿景中的重要作用，并希冀在浩瀚的宇宙探索中驶向真正的星辰大海。

我们所提出的当代材料艺术研究便是基于一种新唯物主义（New Materialism）视角，重新理解物质与物性，让艺术创作重新重视物质的力量以及它在我们日常生活/经验中形成的方式，思考从物质材料到艺术媒介的转化过程，并在这个过程中逐渐展开历史的、生命的、社会的不同维度，在材料探索中重构当代艺术的新视野。依托清华大学跨学科交融的优势和清华大学美术学院跨媒介创作的特色，我们发起了以“唯物思维（Material Thinking）”为主题的中国当代材料艺术国际交流展和国际当代材料艺术双年展等系列学术活动，共建国际材料艺术社区，搭建交流、学习、研究、分享的平台，增进不同国家、不同民族之间深层次的交流与理解。

“中国-西班牙当代材料艺术交流展”是中国当代材料艺术国际交流展的第四站，将展出来自中国和西班牙两国的40位艺术家的聚焦“材料”的艺术作品。我们选取材料艺术为切入点进行国际文化交流，基于以下三点：一是因材料作为一种共通的语言基础，亦是艺术家创作最主要的媒介和载体，回到材料，即回到艺术的起点，重新赋予材料新的表现形式和叙事方式，形成拥有共通基础的沟通和共同关切的对话，促进国家之间深层次的交流与理解，分享和借鉴不同文明的先进成果。二是由材料引入一种唯物的思维方式，在尊重物质材料的主体性和能动性的同时，亦重视生命个体与物质材料之间的互动、链接与生成，在物质与生命一体化的艺术创作思维方式中传递后人类主义生态和谐的发展观。三是经材料生发一种不同的视角，给予长期被主流艺术话语边缘化的不同群体发声的可能，包括东方的、第三世界的、女性的、地域性的、少数族群的声音等，也给予我们重新建构和理解当代艺术的可能。

在展览中，我们发现以材料为关注点的艺术家们，不同于将物质材料及物化过程工具化、机械化的创作观念，他们重视物质性中能动、偶发、灵性的一面，重视与物质材料的互动与对话，思考物质性是如何塑造我们的生活，以及我们与自己、与他人、与世界的关系，反思现代性所主张的人类中心主义，从而转入后人类主义的生态发展语境。同时，在两国的参展作品，尤其是西班牙的艺术家作品中，凸显了女性艺术家的声音。这正是源于材料的拓展，从传统的艺术媒材拓展到纺织、纤维等柔性材料，容纳了更多女性艺术家和少数族群艺术家的作品，传递出更加多元的价值和声音。

愿“中国-西班牙当代材料艺术交流展”搭载着两国艺术家材料艺术的理想和热爱促进两国之间的文化艺术交流，增进两国人民的理解与友谊，共同开启当代艺术的新视野。

Prefacio

En la era post-pandemia, las personas comienzan a repensar nuevas maneras de aprendizaje y cognición, comunicación y conexión, así como a vivir y a pensar. Estos procesos aparecen o se intensifican debido al COVID-19, y dan como resultado la popularización de los nuevos conceptos, como "metaverso". Este prefijo "meta", que es muy de moda recientemente, proviene de "metafísica", que significa estar más allá de los productos naturales o el mundo físico. En paralelo a que el concepto de "meta" genera el entusiasmo de una nueva ola virtual, repensamos la realidad material, la existencia física, la importancia del tiempo y el espacio, y reexaminamos el plano físico para explorar su importante papel en la configuración de la sociedad humana y sus visiones. En esta exploratoria del espacio, anhelamos dirigirnos hacia un mejor futuro.

Ahora, planteamos el estudio del arte material contemporáneo, que se basa en una visión del nuevo materialismo y tiene como objetivo volver a comprender los materiales y su propiedad física. Se supone que la creación artística concede gran importancia a los materiales, así como a su estado en la vida diaria o experiencia, comprendiendo cómo los materiales físicos se transforman en medios artísticos y cómo se desarrollan los significados sobre la historia, la vida y la sociedad en este proceso. A fin de cuentas, lo que esperamos es reconstruir el horizonte del arte contemporáneo en el proceso de exploración material. Basándonos en las ventajas de la integración interdisciplinaria de la Universidad de Tsinghua y las características de la creación de medios mixtos de la Academia de Arte y Diseño de la Universidad de Tsinghua, iniciamos una serie de actividades académicas con el tema de “Pensamiento Material”, que incluyen las Exposiciones Internacionales de Intercambio del Arte Material Contemporáneo Chino y la Bienal Internacional de Arte Material Contemporáneo, para construir una comunidad internacional del arte material. Esta plataforma para la comunicación, el estudio, la investigación y el intercambio significará una gran oportunidad para intercambios en profundidad de puntos de vista de diferentes países y sus pueblos.

La Exposición de Intercambio de Arte Material Contemporáneo China-España es la cuarta de las Exposiciones Internacionales de Intercambio de Arte Material Contemporáneo Chino. Las obras de arte centradas en el tema de materiales de 40 artistas de China y España se reunirán con el público. La razón por la que elegimos el arte material como el punto de partida para un intercambio cultural internacional se basa en los siguientes tres puntos: El primero es el lenguaje común del material. El material, como medio y portador más esencial para los artistas, es también el punto de partida de la creación artística. Traer nuevas formas y modos narrativos en la creación artística es exactamente comunicar sobre una base y una preocupación común del diálogo, promover intercambios y entendimiento profundo entre países y compartir los logros avanzados de diferentes civilizaciones. El segundo es el modo de pensar enfocado en lo material. Al mismo tiempo de dar mucha importancia a la subjetividad y la iniciativa de los materiales, los artistas también privilegian las interacciones, los vínculos y las resonancias entre la vida individual y los materiales, a fin de transferir la visión del desarrollo de la armonía ecológica post-antropocentrista. El tercero son las diferentes perspectivas que aportan los materiales. Las voces de los países orientales, el tercer mundo, las mujeres y los grupos minoritarios y las voces regionales, fueron marginadas por el arte dominante a largo plazo. Se les debe dar más oportunidades para expresarse, lo que también nos da la posibilidad de reconstruir y reentender el arte contemporáneo.

En esta exposición, encontramos que los artistas no sólo van más allá de los conceptos tradicionales que sistematizan los materiales y sus proceos, sino que ellos prestan más atención a los aspectos accidentales, espirituales y moviles de los materiales e intentan construir un diálogo entre los materiales. Sus pensamientos sobre cómo los materiales dan forma a nuestras vidas y nuestras relaciones con nosotros mismos, con los demás y con el mundo, son especialmente importantes. Estos trabajos también muestran una reflexión deliberada sobre el antropocentrismo defendido por la modernidad y una actualización al contexto de desarrollo ecológico post-antropocentrista. Al mismo tiempo, las voces de las artistas femeninas, especialmente de España, se destacan en las obras de ambos países. La participación importante de artistas femeninas y de colectivos de minorías y disidencias amplía las posibilidades de utilización de los materiales, desde los medios artísticos tradicionales hasta los materiales flexibles como los textiles y las fibras, lo cual transmiten voces y valores más diversificados.

Esperamos sinceramente que la Exposición de Intercambio de Arte Material Contemporáneo China-España, cargada de la pasión y el amor de los artistas por el arte material, promueva los intercambios culturales y artísticos entre los dos países, mejore las amistades entre los dos pueblos, y abra un nuevo horizonte del arte contemporáneo.

Foreword

In the post-epidemic era, people began to rethink patterns of learning and cognition, communication and connection, as well as living and thinking, which are all affected or even intensified by COVID-19 and resulted in the popularity of new concepts such as “Metaverse”. This fashionable prefix, meta, comes from “metaphysics”, which means being over/after a natural product or physical world. As the concept of “meta” triggers cheers and virtual boom, we are also feeling more about material reality, physical existence and the significance of real time and space. We can re-examine the physical world and explore its important role in shaping human society and demonstrating human visions. In that vast space exploration, we hope to head for a bright future.

Now, we put forward the study of contemporary material art. It is based on a New Materialism view and aims to re-understand materials and their physical property. Artistic creation is supposed to attach great importance to materials as well as their state in daily life/experience, comprehending how physical materials transform to artistic mediums, and how the meanings about history, life and society unfold in the process. On balance, what we expect is to reconstruct the horizon of contemporary art in the process of material exploration. Relying on the advantages of interdisciplinary integration of Tsinghua University and the characteristics of cross-media creation of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, we initiate a series of academic activities with the theme of “Material Thinking”, including the Chinese Contemporary Material Art Exchange Exhibitions and the International Contemporary Material Art Biennale, to build an international Material art community. Such a platform for communication, study, research and sharing, provides a great opportunity for in-depth exchanges of viewpoints from different countries.

“China-Spain Contemporary Material Art Exchange Exhibition” is the fourth edition of the Chinese Contemporary Material Art Exchange Exhibitions. Artworks focusing on “materials” by 40 artists from China and Spain will meet the audience. As for the reason why we choose material art as the entry point for international cultural exchange. It is based on the following three points: The first one is the common language of material. Material, as the most essential medium and carrier for artists, is also the starting point of artistic creation. To bring new forms and narrative modes is exactly to communicate on a common basis and common concern of dialogue, to promote in-depth exchanges and understanding between countries and draw lessons from the advanced achievements of different civilizations. The second point is the materialist way of thinking. While making much of the subjectivity and initiative of material art made from real physical matter, artists also take seriously the interactions, links and resonances between individual life and materials, to transfer the development view of post-humanist ecological harmony. The third point is different perspectives brought by materials. Voices from oriental countries, the third world, females and minority groups and regional voices, were marginalized by mainstream art in a long term. They should be given more opportunities to express themselves, which also gives us the possibility to reconstruct and re-understand contemporary art.

In this exhibition, we find that artists go beyond the traditional concepts, which aim at instrumentalizing and mechanizing materials and materialized processes. They pay more attention to the moving, accidental, and spiritual sides of materials and try to build dialogue between materials. Their thoughts on how materials shape our lives and our relationships with ourselves, with others, and the world, are especially significant. These works also show a deliberate reflection on the anthropocentrism advocated by modernity and an upgrade to the post-anthropocentrism ecological development context. At the same time, the voices of female artists are prominent in the works from both countries, especially Spain. This is due to the expansion of materials, from traditional artistic media to flexible materials such as textiles and fibers and has accommodated more female arts and minority arts and delivered more diversified values.

We sincerely hope that the “China-Spain Contemporary Material Art Exchange Exhibition”, loaded with the artists’ passion and love for material art, will promote the cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries and enhance the friendships between the two peoples. Let us jointly open a new horizon of contemporary art.
