There are two meanings of Wu Yu (The Language of Objects); first, the essential expression of materials, second, the social and humane values of materials besides their essential attributes. A kind of attributes of visual symbols which appear after being distilled by artists. Different materials bring viewers different feelings. The metals and stones are rigid materials, and the clothes and papers are soft ones. By kneading, extruding, or folding these materials, we will get new visual power. Artists prefer to pay attention to the humane attributes of materials when regarded as the media of the artistic languages in paintings, rather than the essential attributes such as shapes, textures, or colors. Artists want to freely switch these two kinds of attributes into each other, making creation serve the personal emotional expression or communication of ideas.
Song Ke uses clay, sand, and tiny stones to collide with mineral pigments through subjective treatment to weaken the physical attributes of materials and add more concepts. The artist collected various materials, used the techniques of separation of water and oil and superposition, transformed hidden thoughts into existing concepts, and finally formed visual symbols with special meanings. Physical languages and behavior of human beings are used to express the visual meanings beyond essential attributes of objects poetically.
