The body lying flat is silent, the surrounding breath quietly coalesces. It is a monologue in time and a reflection on the real world. Our physical bodies come from the earth, encounter it, absorb the nourishment of all things, and breathe in the essence of heaven and earth. We also breathe in a busy world, breathing in the air of rampant desire. Perhaps there is a moment of leisure to allow ourselves to lie down easily and flatly and then ask ourselves what is left of us when the mundane flesh recedes. It is the transmission, the passing on of skills, the continuation of culture.

Compared to the existence of the soul, the life of the physical body is unimportant and one-size-fits-all. Human flesh has a gender and age, a height, beauty or ugliness, goodness, or badness, a seemingly thousand differences, but in fact, it is much the same. It is only a quantitative difference, not a qualitative one. The human soul, however, is qualitatively different. There are a hundred people and a hundred different souls; some are rich, some are poor, some are lively, some are dull, some are cunning, some are simple, some are real, some are unreal.
